Turfgrass disease can serve as one of the major cons in having your own lawn to tend and care for. Oftentimes, it’s hard to distinguish which turfgrass disease you have and which fungus control product to use. After all, no one wants to damage their lawn any further with chemicals they don’t quite understand. This Sod University article covers Fame Granular Fungicide and how you can use it to both prevent and treat lawn disease.
Fame Granular Fungicide Product Overview
Similar to another top-selling disease control product called Heritage G, Fame Granular Fungicide is a FRAC group 11 fungicide. However, Heritage’s active ingredient is Azoxystrobin whereas Fame’s active ingredient is Fluoxastrobin—both of which serve to interfere with the respiration in plant fungi. The active ingredient is rapidly absorbed into the plant’s system and translocated throughout the xylem of the plants. This provides the plant with a sort of internal barrier of fungal growth and protects the plants from new infections.
In simpler terms, a systemic fungicide, like Fame, will soak into the plant’s system whereas a contact fungicide, in comparison, is a fungicide that kills fungus upon contact and generally lasts from 7–10 days. Similar to Heritage, Fame is also a strobilurin fungicide, which stops the fungus from growing by inhibiting fungal respiration. Fame will attack the fungus’s system by absorbing itself into the disease and killing it.
Fame is among Heritage in its popularity as it provides a large amount of product that’s easy to use and sold at a fair price. As a broad-spectrum fungicide, Fame is designed to prevent and control many different types of diseases in both turf and ornamentals. A pro to using Fame is that it can be used in alternation with other labeled fungicides to cover all the major fungal diseases that attack most major turfgrass and ornamental species.
